Nacho Novo, who was born in the north of Spain, started his career with the youth team of the SD Huesca . In the 2001/02 season he played for the first time in the first team of SD Huesca. During the season Novo moved to Scotland for the Raith Rovers on a free transfer . Nacho Novo scored 20 goals in 37 games at the Rovers, bringing the young Spaniard's attention to other Scottish clubs. In the summer of 2002 he was sold for around 150,000 euros to Dundee FC, where he played in the Scottish Premier League for a full season. In his second season at Dens Park , Novo scored 25 goals, helping Dundee to the first round of the UEFA Cup . In the extremely successful first season with the Glasgow Rangers, Novo scored 25 goals in 48 games, helping his team to the championship title in the Scottish Premier League.
In November 2004, Novo found a death threat sprayed on a wall near his home, and the next month his car tires were slashed. During the 2005/06 season, Novo injured his right foot and was out for a long time. Upon his return, he failed to score in the remaining 20 games.
On December 21, 2007, he signed with the Rangers for another two years. On May 1, 2008, he scored the decisive penalty in the penalty shoot-out against Fiorentina in the UEFA Cup. The Glasgow Rangers reached the final. In the final itself he was substituted on for Saša Papac when the score was 0: 1 in the 77th minute . However , he could no longer prevent the 2-0 defeat against Zenit St. Petersburg . On May 21, 2010, his commitment was announced by the Spanish first division club Sporting Gijón (for two years). In February 2012 he signed a contract with Legia Warsaw and won the Polish Cup.
In the summer of 2012 he returned to Spain and signed with his former club SD Huesca. After just one season, Novo moved to the Scottish second division club Greenock Morton in October, where his contract was terminated by mutual agreement after three months.
