The Tynecastle Park is a football stadium in the Scottish capital Edinburgh , United Kingdom . The stadium is owned and home to the Heart of Midlothian football club . There are only seats in the facility and the capacity is 20,099 spectators. In 1932 the Hearts match against the Glasgow Rangers was the record that is still valid today with 53,396 spectators . The stadium is called "Tynie" by fans.

history

The stadium was inaugurated on April 10, 1886 and is one of the oldest stadiums in Scotland. The first visiting team were the Bolton Wanderers , who lost 4-1 to Hearts. In 1892 the first international match against Wales took place in this stadium. Scotland won 6-1. Only 1200 spectators saw the game as many thought the game had been postponed due to a snow storm. In the same year the south stand was covered. In 1927 the BBC received permission to broadcast radio from the interior.

In 1954 the venue was rebuilt, making it the first stadium in Scotland to be built entirely from concrete. In the course of the renovation work, the capacity was increased to 54,359 spectators. For safety reasons, only 49,000 spectators were allowed in at top games. In 1957 a floodlight system was installed. It was only recently that the pitch was adapted to the UEFA standard so that there was only 18,008 seats.

In March 2016, plans became known that the Main Stand, which had remained almost unchanged since 1919, would be expanded from 4,720 to 7,000 seats. This would increase the total stadium capacity to over 20,000. The renovation of the stadium began in September 2017. During the renovation, the club played four home games at Murrayfield Stadium . The new main stand was opened to the public on November 19, 2017 for the game against Partick Thistle . There were 16,999 spectators in the stadium. The game ended 1-1. The stadium capacity with the new grandstand is 20,099 visitors. The originally estimated cost had risen from £ 12 million to £ 15 million .
