The Duisburger SV 98 (complete: Duisburger swimming club from 1898 eV ) is a sports club from Duisburg and one of the oldest swimming clubs in Germany . The DSV has been German water polo champion seven times , but has not yet been a German water polo cup winner .

The club has a club facility in the Wedau sports park and is located on Lake Berta. In addition to the clubhouse, members have a swimming pool and water polo pool, the opportunity to swim in the lake, a volleyball court, a sunbathing area and a children's and baby playground. There is also a public restaurant in the complex. In the summer months, various sports courses take place on the facility, e.g. B. Aqua jogging. Non-members can also take part in the courses, but they pay a course fee.

Water polo

The men's team became German champions in 1939, 1940, 1941, 1952, 1958, 1961 and 1962. Since the water polo Bundesliga was founded in 1976, the first team of DSV 98 has played in one of the two top leagues. In 2006, the renewed promotion to the German Water Polo League (1st Bundesliga) could be celebrated. In 2008 and 2014, however, the DSV was relegated to the 2nd Water Polo League West, from which it was promoted back to the Bundesliga after one season.

The youth and junior teams became: once German junior champions, two German A youth champions, six German B youth champions, seven German C youth champions.

In addition, the clubs provided numerous national players, including Santiago Chalmovsky , Rainer Hoppe , Paul Klingenburg , Werner Obschernikat and Hans Schneider

The swimmers of the DSV 98 carried the German flag at numerous international competitions up to the Olympic Games . The athletes also won some German championships.

The DSV 98 has been one of ten Duisburg clubs since 1999 that form a starting community. In addition to the "98ers", the Duisburg swimming team includes the following clubs: ASC Duisburg , Duisburg SSC 09/20, SSF Hamborn 07/38, Freie Schwimmer Duisburg 1920, DJK SV Hamborn, DJK SV Poseidon Duisburg 1921, SV Rheinhausen 1913, Police SV Duisburg and 1st swimming club Walsum 1959.

The association offers swimming courses for children and teenagers for all swimming badges from seahorses to gold. These take place in the indoor swimming pools Memelstrasse and Grossenbaum.
