The Amateur Swimming Club Duisburg ( ASC Duisburg ) is a sports club from Duisburg , whose water polo team is one of the strongest in Germany and which also has a swimming department . The "amateurs" have been German water polo champions six times and German water polo cup winners four times .

ASC Duisburg was founded in 1909. The club currently has around 2900 members, making it one of the largest swimming clubs in Germany. The club complex in the Duisburg sports park is around two hectares in size. The club also has a heated 50-meter outdoor pool. Members can also use the Barbarasee for swimming.

Water polo

ASC Duisburg plays in the German Water Polo League . In recent years, the "amateurs" have regularly belonged to the top group of the league and were able to break through the long-standing dominance of the Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 in 2013 with the double from championship and cup . Already in 2010 they won the cup after a waiting period of more than twenty years.

The ASCD was German champion six times (1957, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1968 and 2013). In the cup competition, which was introduced in 1972 and held for the first time in Duisburg, the Duisburg team were successful in 1972, 1989, 2010 and 2013.

The ASCD has been one of ten Duisburg clubs since 1999 that form a starting community. In addition to the "amateurs", the Duisburg swimming team includes the following clubs: Duisburger SV 1898 , Duisburger SSC 09/20, SSF Hamborn 07/38, Free Swimmers Duisburg 1920, DJK SV Hamborn, DJK SV Poseidon Duisburg 1921, SV Rheinhausen 1913, Police SV Duisburg and 1st swimming club in Walsum 1959.
