The SGW Cologne is the largest water polo club in the Cologne region. After the merger of the two clubs SV Rhenania Köln and SC Blau Weiss Poseidon in 2009 , two promotions were made to the German Water Polo League (DWL), the highest German water polo league (2011, 2017).

In this way, the syndicate can build on the long and successful tradition of the founding clubs. The youth teams of SGW Cologne reached several district championships in their age groups. In total, the club has reported four senior teams and seven youth teams.
