Santiago Chalmovsky

Santiago Chalmovsky (born June 25, 1959 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is a former German water polo player who began his career in Neunkirchen (Saar) .

Chalmovsky played for the Duisburg swimming club from 1898 , with which he was German runner-up seven times behind Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 in the 1980s . In 1982 and 1983 the Duisburg team reached the final of the German Water Polo Cup, and here too they were subject to the Spandau team.

Chalmovsky's achievements in the Duisburg goal led to his appointment in the German national water polo team as second goalkeeper behind Peter Röhle . He took part in the 1983 European Championship in Rome when the German team finished fifth. By the time he was nominated for the Olympic squad in 1984, he had played 41 international matches. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles Chalmovsky was used in the game against Japan. He received the bronze medal with the German team.

Santiago Chalmovsky was for a long time the sporting director of his club Duisburger SV 1898 and is a goalkeeper of the Waterpolomasters Duisburg , the Duisburg association of senior water polo players and multiple German senior champions. In this team he plays together with Rainer Hoppe and Rainer Osselmann from the 1984 Olympic team.
