Peter Röhle
Peter Röhle (born March 6, 1957 in Berlin ) is a former German water polo player and later coach. Peter Röhle was third in the Olympic and world championships and played in two European championship teams.
Peter Röhle made his debut in the German national water polo team in 1976 and went to the Olympic Games in Montreal as the second goalkeeper next to Günter Kilian , where the German team finished sixth. After another sixth place at the European Championship in 1977 and seventh place at the World Championship in 1978, the European Championship title followed in 1981 and bronze at the World Championship in 1982. Despite finishing fifth at the 1983 European Championships, the German team was a favorite at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , winning the bronze medal behind the Yugoslavsand the American hosts they managed to win the only Olympic medal after 1945. Bronze at the 1985 European Championship and sixth place at the 1986 World Championship. Both at the 1987 European Championship and at the 1988 Olympic Games , the German team narrowly missed fourth place the medal ranks. 1989 then succeeded again after 1981 victory at the European championship. In total, Peter Röhle played in 414 international matches for the German national team. He was also a record international player for some time, but was overtaken by his longtime teammate Frank Otto , who made 467 international matches.
Peter Röhle started playing waterball at SC Spandau 04 . In 1976 he was the only Berliner in the Olympic water polo team. After the merger of the two Spandau clubs, he was the goalkeeper of Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 from the start . In addition to the Berliners Frank Otto (Sturm) and Hagen Stamm (Center), the club under coach Alfred Balen signed key players in the club sport over the years with Thomas Loebb (head of defense), Roland Freund (striker) and Armando Fernández (playmaker) and should shape the German national team. In 1979 the Spandauer won their first German championship title, Peter Röhle won a total of 18 German championship titles between 1979 and the end of his career in 1997, only in 1993 the Spandauer had no title. In 1982, 1984, 1985 and 1988 the team won the European Champion Clubs' Cup. In total, Peter Röhle won 47 titles as an active player.
Peter Röhle was an officer in the Berlin police, but was later released to study sports. After the end of his career, he took over the position of coach at Wasserfreunde Spandau and won eight championship titles in a row as a coach until the Wasserfreunde failed in the playoff round at SV Cannstatt in 2006 . Thereupon Röhle resigned from the office of coach at the water friends and switched to the management of the club. In addition to the position of club trainer, Röhle had also taken on the position of trainer for the German junior national team, and he was still active in this position in 2011. In April 2014 Röhle took over the coaching position at Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 from András Gyöngyösi ; until then he had been his assistant coach and the manager of the Spandauer. Currently (as of May 2018) Röhle is again the team manager of the Bundesliga team.
