Thomas Loebb (born July 11, 1957 in Gelsenkirchen-Buer ) is a former German water polo player .

Loebb started at ASC Duisburg with water polo and was there several times German youth champion. In 1977 he moved to Berlin and played for Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 for ten years . With Spandau he won nine German championship titles; In 1982, 1984 and 1985 the team won the European Champion Clubs' Cup.

Thomas Loebb made his debut in the German national team in 1975 and took sixth place with the German team at the World Cup in Cali. Then Loebb paused in the national team to do his Abitur. From 1977, the defense organizer was a regular in the German team for ten years. In 1978 he finished seventh with the German team at the World Cup in Berlin. In 1981 the team won the European championship, in 1982 the German team took third place at the world championship. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the German water polo players were among the favorites. By winning the bronze medal behind the Yugoslavs and the American hosts, they achieved the only Olympic medal win after 1945. In 1985, a bronze medal followed at the European Championships.

After Loebb dropped out of sports studies due to a sports injury, he attended the Axel Springer journalism school . From 1988 Loebb was a sports editor for Bildzeitung for three years , then he switched to Berliner Kurier , where he has been head of the sports department since 1996.
