Armando Fernández

Armando Fernández , actually Armando Fernández Alatorre (born May 11, 1955 in Mexico City ) is a former Mexican and German water polo player .

Fernández took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich when he lost four times with the Mexican water polo team in five games and was classified with the team in 13th place, Fernández had scored 11 of the 25 goals of the Mexicans. Four years later at the Olympic Games in Montreal , the Mexicans finished tenth, with Fernández being used in all eight games, he scored 16 of the 36 goals. Between 1971 and 1978 he played a total of 223 international matches for Mexico.

Fernández came to Germany in 1979 and was the playmaker of Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 in the years to come , with whom he won twelve German championship titles in a row from 1980 onwards. In 1982, 1984, 1985 and 1988 the team won the European Cup. In 1992 Fernández played one more season at SSF Delphin Wuppertal .

From 1984 Fernández was eligible to play for the German national team, with which he won bronze at the 1984 Olympic Games and 1985 European Championships. After finishing sixth at the 1986 World Cup, he finished fourth at the 1987 European Championships and the 1988 Olympic Games .
