37th Symphony (Michael Haydn)

The Symphony no. 37 in D major Perger 29, MH 476 composed Michael Haydn in 1788.

To the music

Instrumentation: two oboes , two horns in D, A, 2 violins , viola , cello , double bass . To reinforce the bass voice, the bassoon and harpsichord (if available in the orchestra) were also used without a separate notation , although there are different opinions about the involvement of the harpsichord in the literature.
Performance time: approx. 9-10 minutes.

1st movement: Vivace

D major, 3/4 time, 158 bars
The movement is written in the form of a sonata without repeating the exposition.

2nd movement: Andantino

A major, 2/4 time, 64 bars
Simply two-part form.

3rd movement: Finale: Allegro assai

D major, 6/8 time, 144 bars
The movement is written in sonata form, with a written repetition of the exposition (no repetition sign) and a very short development.
