The Nemzeti Bajnokság 2008/09 , also called Soproni League for sponsorship reasons , was the 108th season of the highest Hungarian football league. It began on July 25, 2008 with the opening match between Kaposvári Rákóczi FC and MTK Budapest FC (final score: 3: 1) and ended on May 30, 2009 . The reigning champions Debreceni VSC successfully defended their title, while Bodajk FC Siófok and Rákospalotai EAC had to be relegated .
