The Hungarian National Championship 2020/21 , officially after the sponsor OTP Bank OTP Bank Liga named, is the 120th season of the highest Hungarian league for men's soccer . It was opened on August 14, 2020 with the game of the newcomer MTK against the reigning champion Ferencváros .

Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic

All leagues below the Nemzeti Bajnokság were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020, including the second-class Nemzeti Bajnokság II . The teams that were ranked 1 and 2 at the time of the cancellation were allowed to move up. The two Budapest clubs MTK and Budafoki thus increased the number of participants from the capital.
