The Nemzeti Bajnokság 2000/01 was the 100th season in the history of the highest Hungarian football league . It began on July 22nd, 2000 and ended on June 23rd, 2001. From the beginning of December 2000 to the beginning of March 2001 the game was closed (winter break). Ferencváros Budapest became champion for the 27th time .

mode

The season was played back and forth. There were three points for a win, one for a draw and no point for a loss. The teams initially competed in two groups of eight teams each. The last two in each group had to be relegated. The other teams reached the finals, where the first place in each group took six points, the second place five points, etc. The last two places in the final round also had to be relegated.
