1st deild 2000

The Faroese Football Championship 2001 was played in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was overall the 59th season. It started on April 29, 2001 and ended on September 29, 2001.

Promoted EB / Streymur returned to the top division after six years. Champion was B36 Tórshavn , who could win the title for the seventh time. Defending champion VB Vágur ended up in fourth place. However, B71 Sandur had to relegate after three years and FS Vágar after two years of first class.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 3.67 per game. B36 Tórshavn scored the highest victory with a 15-0 home game against FS Vágar on matchday five. This was also the highest scoring game.

mode

In the 1st Deild , each team played twice against each other on 18 match days. The team with the best points at the end of the season was clear as the champions of this league, the last team was relegated to the 2nd Deild , in the event of a tie, the first direct comparison decided. The ninth placed also had to play two relegation games against the runner-up of the 2nd Deild to stay in the 1st Deild .

Season course

Championship decision

GÍ Gøta won the first ten games of the season, so everything looked like the safe championship title. From the third match day onwards, the team consistently took first place, the lead increased to five points over their closest rival B36 Tórshavn . Due to a draw and the 1: 3 away defeat in a direct duel with B36 on matchday 13, both teams were now tied at the top of the table, but the lead changed due to the goal difference. GÍ won the first leg 3-1, after which only victories followed for opponent B36. The championship decision was made two game days before the end of the game. B36 Tórshavn secured the title with a 1-0 win against HB Tórshavn , while runner-up GÍ Gøta only played 2-2 at B68 Toftir . On the last day of the match, B36 suffered their second defeat of the season against VB Vágur , but this had no effect.

Relegation battle

After two defeats at the beginning, FS Vágar was able to leave last place for a short time with a 1-0 win at B71 Sandur , which, however, was occupied again from the fourth match day. After two more victories, places were swapped with B71 Sandur on matchday 12. Until the end of the season, however, there was no further victory, the team held last place from matchday 15 to the end of the season. The last game at HB Tórshavn should definitely have been won in order to at least reach the relegation place and even the lead could be achieved, ultimately an 8-2 defeat was conceded. B71 Sandur also lost 3-0 to GÍ Gøta.

B71 Sandur was able to win the first game 1-0 against EB / Streymur , the team remained without a win for the next eight games and fell to the penultimate place. On the twelfth match day, B71 even slipped to last place, but was able to leave it again with a 3-2 win against HB Tórshavn. With two wins in the last two games of the season there was still a chance to reach eighth place, but the game on matchday 17 at NSÍ Runavík was lost 3-2, as was the last game. The relegation place was held.
