The Faroese Football Championship 1980 was played in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was the 38th season overall. It started on April 20, 1980 and ended on September 21, 1981.
Promoted GÍ Gøta was the 14th participant in the top division after the introduction of the league game in 1947 . Master was TB Tvøroyri , who could win the title for the sixth time. Defending champion ÍF Fuglafjørður finished in fifth place. However, MB Miðvágur had to relegate after three years of first class.
Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 3.23 per game, which was the lowest average since 1977 . The highest victories were achieved with a 7: 1 HB Tórshavn in the home game against GÍ Gøta on the fifth matchday, TB Tvøroyri in the home game against B36 Tórshavn on the ninth matchday and TB Tvøroyri in the away game against VB Vágur on the twelfth matchday. These victories also represented the highest-scoring games.

Championship decision
TB Tvøroyri was not in first place only on matchday four, after they suffered their first and only defeat with a 4-1 win away game against KÍ Klaksvík , but TB Tvøroyri was next with a 7-1 loss of new leaders GÍ Gøta at HB Tórshavn Matchday this fact was corrected again. On the penultimate day of the game, the decision for the championship was finally made, when TB Tvøroyri won 4-0 in the home game against direct pursuer GÍ Gøta and could therefore no longer be overtaken on the points.
Relegation battle
B36 Tórshavn and MB Miðvágur fought against each other for relegation, with the exception of the first day of the match, both teams consistently occupied the last two places. MB won the direct duel on matchday five with 2-0 in the home game against B36 and thus left the relegation zone. B36, on the other hand, only achieved their first win on matchday eight with a 1-0 home win against VB Vágur , which made it seventh. On the tenth match day, MB Miðvágur achieved their second victory with a 3-2 win at VB Vágur and the renewed exchange of places with B36. On the twelfth matchday the second leg between B36 and MB followed, this time the team from Tórshavn left the pitch as the winner and won 2-0. Now MB was back in last place, but should not be able to leave it, because the last two games were lost, on the last day of the game with 1: 5 in the home game against TB Tvøroyri, whereby the relegation was finally certain, with B36 also being Tórshavn Home game 2: 3 against HB Tórshavn lost.
