The Faroese Football Championship 1987 was held in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was the 45th season overall. It started on May 25, 1987 and ended on September 20, 1987.
Promoted VB Vágur returned to the top division after five years. Master was TB Tvøroyri , who could win the title for the seventh time. Defending champion GÍ Gøta ended up in third place. Since the league was to be expanded to ten teams for the next season, there were no relegated teams this year.
Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 3.18 per game. HB Tórshavn scored the highest win with an 8-0 home game against VB Vágur on matchday nine, which was the highest-scoring game alongside HB Tórshavn's 6-2 home win against KÍ Klaksvík on matchday seven.

Season course
HB Tórshavn occupied the first ten game days consistently first place, with the first defeat on the sixth game day with a 0: 1 in the away game against B68 Toftir . However, the final phase was turbulent. On matchday ten, the direct duel against GÍ Gøta, who was two points behind HB, was lost 4-1 away, and third-placed TB Tvøroyri was also able to catch up on points after a 3-0 away win against KÍ Klaksvík . After HB's 3-2 home defeat against NSÍ Runavík on Matchday 11 , the top position went to GÍ, who in turn drew 2-2 in the away game against LÍF Leirvík , while TB lost 1-0 at B68 Toftir. The lead changed again on the next match day, as GÍ lost 2-1 at home to VB Vágur and TB and HB parted 2-2 in a direct duel. However, since HB Tórshavn did not get beyond a 1-1 draw against B68 Toftir on Matchday 13, while GÍ Gøta and TB Tvøroyri were able to win their games, they fell behind the two competitors to third place. Now there was only one matchday left, but on this GÍ lost the championship by losing 3-1 away to NSÍ Runavík. HB was able to draw level on points with a 1-1 draw at KÍ Klaksvík and also had the better goal difference, the equalizer fell in the 80th minute. TB Tvøroyri, however, was now 0-0 in the home game against VB Vágur to move into first place.
