The Faroese Football Championship 1977 was held in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was altogether the 35th season. It started on April 30, 1977 with Fram Tórshavn's game against TB Tvøroyri and ended on October 2, 1977.
Promoted Fram Tórshavn was the 13th participant in the top division after the introduction of the league game in 1947 . This was the first time that three clubs from the same city played in the first division with B36 Tórshavn , Fram and HB Tórshavn . This could only be repeated in 2007 . Champion was defending champion TB Tvøroyri, who could win the title for the fifth time. However, Fram Tórshavn had to relegate after a year of first class.
Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 3.21 per game. The biggest win achieved ÍF Fuglafjørður with a 7-1 in the home game against Fram Tórshavn on the third match day, which was also the highest-scoring game.

Championship decision
TB Tvøroyri started the season with three wins from the first four games and thus sat right at the top of the table. On the sixth game day they had to give them up after a 0-0 draw in the away game against KÍ Klaksvík to HB Tórshavn , who were also unbeaten. But that changed on the next match day, when both teams met and TB was able to recapture the lead in the home game with a 1-0 win. Despite a 1: 2 defeat on the eleventh game day in the away game against ÍF Fuglafjørður , they did not give up the lead. The decision about the championship was made on the last match day. TB Tvøroyri led with a better goal difference with two points before HB Tórshavn, who lost their home game in a direct duel against TB with 0: 3.
Relegation battle
Fram Tórshavn suffered three defeats at the beginning of the season and found himself at the bottom of the table. This could be left after a 3-1 home win against B36 Tórshavn and a 1: 1 in the away game against HB Tórshavn. Last place briefly took KÍ Klaksvík, who pushed past Fram after a 0-0 home game against TB Tvøroyri on matchday six and relegated ÍF Fuglafjørður to last place. After ÍF won 4-1 in their home game against KÍ on the next day, Fram Tórshavn was again in last place. Until the end of the season, not a single goal was achieved, so that on the twelfth matchday after a 0: 3 in the home game against HB Tórshavn, relegation was sealed, as the direct competitor B36 Tórshavn the gap with a 1: 1 in the away game against KÍ Klaksvík to three points with one game still outstanding for Fram.
