Effodeildin 2016

The 2017 Faroese Football Championship was the 75th season of the Faroese top football league . The league is officially called Effodeildin after its main sponsor, the energy company Effo . It started on March 12, 2017 and ended on October 21, 2017.

TB / FCS / Royn was through the merger of TB Tvøroyri with FC Suðuroy and Royn Hvalba the 26th participant in the top division after the introduction of the league game in 1947 , the promoted EB / Streymur and 07 Vestur returned to the top division after one and three years respectively . Champion was defending champion Víkingur Gøta , who could win the title for the second time. However, ÍF Fuglafjørður had to relegate after ten years of first class.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate improved to 3.19 per game. NSÍ Runavík scored the highest victory with a 7-0 in the away game against 07 Vestur on matchday 15. The highest-scoring game was played by B36 Tórshavn and Víkingur Gøta with a 3: 5 on matchday 11.

mode

In the Effodeildin , each team played against each other three times on 27 match days. The team with the best points at the end of the season was champions and takes part in the qualification for the Champions League, while the team that placed last was relegated to 1. Deild , the Faroese second division. Since there was only one A-team in the first three places in the 1st Deild , there was only one relegated team.

Season course

Championship decision

TB / FCS / Royn and Víkingur Gøta fought for the top of the table at the start of the season. TB / FCS / Royn won four of the first five games, only the away game against EB / Streymur on matchday three was lost 0-1. Víkingur won after a 1: 1 draw at home against B36 Tórshavn the next three games, followed by four more draws, which initially on Matchday due to the 1: 3 home defeat of TB / FCS / Royn against NSÍ Runavík be conquered the championship lead could. On matchday eight, KÍ Klaksvík took first place with four wins and four draws. Three more wins followed, after a 2-2 away game against NSÍ, Víkingur Gøta took over the top of the table again. On matchday 13, both Víkingur and KÍ lost their respective home games, with three wins in a row Víkingur was able to extend the lead to three points. The direct duel ended 1: 1 on the 18th matchday. By then, NSÍ Runavík had advanced to second place with a record of nine wins, six draws and two defeats, but could not take advantage of the draw between the two competitors as the away game against HB Tórshavn was lost 4-1. Four more wins for Víkingur Gøta followed, giving KÍ Klaksvík five points. Víkingur and KÍ met again on matchday 23 and drew 0-0. While KÍ Klaksvík lost their chance for the championship with two more 0-0, Víkingur Gøta won only three of the last four games of the season. The decision about the championship was made on the last day of the match. Despite Víkingur's 2-1 home defeat against EB / Streymur and KÍ Klaksvík's 3-1 home win against NSÍ Runavík, Víkingur celebrated the championship title because of the five goals better goal difference.

Relegation battle

07 Vestur lost the first three games, followed by two away wins against ÍF Fuglafjørður and EB / Streymur. With two more draws, the jump was made seventh. ÍF, however, only won the home game against EB / Streymur 3-1 on the second matchday, after which the team remained without a win until matchday 20, a 2-1 home win against HB Tórshavn. The relegation was clear after the 1: 2 away defeat against Skála ÍF . 07 Vestur lost all games except for the direct duel against ÍF between the eighth and 16th matchday, so that the team found themselves in the penultimate place. The last eleven games resulted in five wins, but the alleged relegation was certain due to the 3-2 home defeat on matchday 25 against NSÍ Runavík. Since there was only one A-team in the first three places in the 1st Deild and teams with a lower ranking are excluded from promotion, 07 Vestur remained in the first division.
