Maurice Alexander Ross (born February 3, 1981 in Dundee ) is a Scottish football player . The Glasgow Rangers trained full-back served in England, Norway and China before becoming a coach in Norway and the Faroe Islands.
Athletic career
Ross began his footballing career as a trainee with the Glasgow Rangers and made his first brief appearance on February 27, 2000 against his home club FC Dundee 6-1 - the game ended with a 7-1 away win. A year later he won the “Reserve League Championship” with the second team of the “Gers” and established himself in the “first team” in the following two seasons under coach Alex McLeish . In 2003 he signed a new four-year contract; two years later, however, he was given early clearance for a transfer and he moved to England for the second division Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer .
In Sheffield Ross played only two competitive games and just two months later his new club loaned him to league rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers . In January 2006 the "Wolves" signed him themselves, although the term was only dated to the end of the current 2005/06 season. The next stop in the 2006/07 season was the third division FC Millwall , for whom he was in the starting line-up in the first five games, but was relegated to the bench after poor performance. Instead, he "stranded" in March 2007 with the Norwegian first division club Viking Stavanger , who initially employed him on loan and later provided him with a new three-year contract. Ross did not fully fulfill this and from February 2009 helped out at the Turkish club Kocaelispor . There he missed the goal of relegation and left the club after the end of the season.
In October 2009, the now contractless Ross asked the Scottish FC Aberdeen to keep fit under local coach Mark McGhee . Immediately later this led to a new contract through which Ross tied himself to the "Dons" at short notice until January 2010. Ross also refused to extend the contract; instead, he was drawn to the Chinese champions Beijing Guoan in February 2010 . After further stints at FC Livingston , FC Motherwell and FK Vidar , he ended his playing career.
Scottish national team
During his successful time with the Glasgow Rangers Ross came between 2002 and 2003 under the then coach Berti Vogts to thirteen international matches for the Scottish national team . He made his debut on May 16, 2002 against South Korea (1: 4) and was part of the team that did not qualify for Euro 2004 in Portugal . He played his last international match on November 19, 2003 in the play-off against the Netherlands , which ended in a clear 6-0 defeat.
Coaching career
Ross initially stayed in Norway and trained Sola FK , with whom he achieved promotion to the third division for the 2015 season . Then he moved to the third division Egersunds IK . For the 2017 season he took over the coaching position at the newly founded Faroese first division club TB / FC Suðuroy / Royn . In his first season he finished eighth. For the 2018 season he moved to Faroese champions Víkingur Gøta. After eleven match days, Ross was dismissed in fifth place and replaced by Sigfríður Clementsen .
