Víkingur Gøta ("Viking Gøta") is a Faroese football club based in Norðragøta on the island of Eysturoy .
history
The association was formed in November 2007 from the merger of GÍ Gøta and LÍF Leirvík , with the square of GÍ, the fifth in the Formuladeildin (now Betrideildin occupied) was taken. The second team took the place of LÍF in the 1st Deild , who also took fifth place last season. GÍ Gøta II, who finished the 2nd Deild in second place, became the third team. The new name Víkingur was announced on February 4, 2008.
Already in the second year after the founding the first success could be recorded, with Víkingur becoming the Faroese cup winner with a 3-2 win against EB / Streymur . From 2012 to 2015, the team won four cups in a row, and the team also won the Supercup from 2014 to 2017 .
The greatest success in the club's history followed in 2016 when the club became Faroese champions. The title was defended in 2017.
The home games are played in the Sarpugerði Stadium, which holds 3,000 spectators.

Women's soccer
The women's team from Víkingur took over from GÍ Gøta in the 1st Deild due to the merger in 2008 and was able to establish itself there with two third places in a row. The two following seasons were each finished in fourth place. In 2014 the team entered into a syndicate with ÍF Fuglafjørður to form the new club ÍF / Víkingur .
