The Faroese Football Championship 2020 is the 78th season of the Faroese top football league . The league is officially called Betrideildin after the main sponsor Betri Banki . It was originally scheduled to start on March 8, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the start has been postponed to May 9, 2020. The start of the season attracted more attention than usual, as the league was the first European to start playing after the interruption. This was also made possible by the fact that there were no more active cases in the Faroe Islands. Nevertheless, the first matchday was played without spectators. The season is now set to end on November 7, 2020.
In the Betrideildin , each team plays against each other three times on 27 match days. The team with the best points at the end of the season is the champions and takes part in the qualification for the Champions League, while the last two teams are relegated to the 1st Deild , the Faroese second division.
