The Meistriliiga 2020 is the 30th season of the highest Estonian football -Spielklasse of Lords. The Estonian championship, which is officially held as A. Le Coq Premium liiga , began on March 6, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Estonia , game operations were suspended after the first match day and continued on May 19, 2020 without spectators. The defending champion is FC Flora Tallinn . The second division champion Tallinna JK Legion is promoted from the Esiliiga .

mode

As in the previous season, the league consists of ten teams. Due to the Corona interruption, the number of games was reduced. Instead of 36 games, 27 games are played in the first phase. This means that all teams initially compete against each other three times.

The league is then split up. The first six teams play in the championship round, the four worst-placed teams in the relegation round. In a single round, the clubs play five games in the championship round and three games in the relegation round.

The champions play in the UEFA Champions League, the second, third and cup winners in the UEFA Europa Conference League . The bottom of the table is relegated directly to the Esiliiga, the penultimate has to go into relegation

    Championship round

    The six best-placed teams in the preliminary round play against each other for the championship in a single round, with all results from the preliminary round being transferred.

    Relegation round

    The four teams in positions 7 to 10 of the preliminary round will play against relegation in the second half of the season. Here, too, the results of the preliminary round are broadcast and a single round is played between the clubs. The last placed team is relegated directly, while the penultimate competes in the relegation games against the second in the Esiliiga .

    Relegation

    The ninth place in the Meistriliiga meets the runner-up in the Esiliiga .
