Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic , games were suspended after 22 games had been played on March 13, 2020 and resumed on July 31.

All teams play against each other four times on 36 match days for the championship. After a league reform, only ten teams play in both the League of Ireland and the second-rate First Division. The team in last place will be relegated directly, the team in the penultimate place will play against relegation against relegation.
