Ballybofey ( Irish : Bealach Féich ) is a town in County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland .

Ballybofey lies in an arch of the River Finn , near the Northern Irish border, and forms a twin town with Stranorlar, which is just across the Finn . Ballybofey-Stranorlar had a total of 4852 inhabitants at the 2016 census .

Ballybofey is the secret sports capital of County Donegal. It is home to the Finn Harps football club . More importantly, Ballybofey has the central facilities of the GAA - the federation of the Irish sports hurling and Gaelic football - for the county (the Irish championship is contested by national teams of the individual counties).

Just outside by the river are the ruins of Drumboe Castle. The Portal Tomb of Cloghroe located north of Ballybofey.
