Portal Tomb by Cloghroe

The Portal Tomb von Cloghroe ( Irish An Cloch Rua , ( German  the red stone ); also called Portal Tomb von Magheravall after the townland ) is located near a road southwest of Drumkeen north of Ballybofey in County Donegal in Ireland . In the British Isles, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two upright stones of the same height with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber that is covered with a sometimes huge capstone.

The remains of the portal tomb consist of the two approximately 2.0 meter high portal stones and three orthostats of the chamber. The capstone is missing and the entrance is to the west. The northern portal stone has an interesting feature - the rear edge has been machined so that the lower part is vertical, moreover, it has slipped and leans against the southern one.

The remaining orthostats of the gallery are the end stone and two stones of the north wall. Since there is a gap between the wall stones and the portal stone, there were likely three stones in each wall. The end stone is pointed, as is often found at the ends of Court Tombs' galleries . If a memorial demonstrates the connection between portal and court tombs, this is it.
