Twin city

As twin cities are called independent, but contiguous cities. They can be separated by a river or border, or grown together from two expanding places. Twin cities usually have different names and histories. They are to be differentiated from divided places that arise through shifting borders. A clear assignment between the terms is not always possible.

German-speaking area

The entire Twin Cities Vienna - Bratislava region is also referred to as a twin city, although the two cities are not directly adjacent to each other, but are the closest capitals in Europe (with the exception of the Vatican and Rome ).
