Büdelsdorf ( Danish : Bydelstorp , Low German : Büdelsdborough ) is a town in Schleswig-Holstein on the Kiel Canal , directly north of Rendsburg and belongs to the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district .
geography
Büdelsdorf is located on the northern side of the Eider and the Kiel Canal in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein and borders directly on the district town of Rendsburg. In Büdelsdorf there is a port and the two federal motorways A 7 (towards Hamburg / Flensburg ) and A 210 (towards Kiel ) are only a few minutes away. This geographical location leads to a steady growth of the young city.
history
The first settlement in the vicinity of Büdelsdorf was an earthwork of the funnel beaker culture , which dates back to 3400 BC. Is dated (see Erdwerk von Büdelsdorf ). The Büdelsdorf dolmens are visible witnesses of this time . From the Bronze Age a was around 1500 BC. Bronze sword blade made in BC found. There are also traces of settlement from the pre-Roman Iron Age around 500 BC. Proven.
The origins of the settlement of today's Büdelsdorf are dated around 1200 AD. Administratively, Büdelsdorf belonged to Fræzlæt (sub-administrative area: Kamp), later to the district of Eckernförde (1867–1878), the district of Rendsburg (1878–1970) and since 1970 Büdelsdorf belongs to the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde . In 1779 Büdelsdorf received precise local boundaries. At that time around 200 people lived in Büdelsdorf. The new Eider Canal , which was completed in 1784, favored Büdelsdorf's economic situation.
The Carlshütte was founded in 1827. This iron foundry was the first industrial enterprise on the Jutian peninsula and had almost 500 employees around 1850, 1,100 around 1900 and over 2,500 in 1965. The Carlshütte dominated the economic life of the place for a very long time.
The Kiel Canal was opened in 1895. Around 1900 there were almost 3,000 inhabitants in Büdelsdorf. The population doubled to 6,000 by 1940. Due to the influx of displaced persons after the Second World War , the population rose to 9,000 in 1945.
In the Reichstag election in March 1933 , 37.6% voted for the NSDAP , 4.0% for the DNVP , 39.4% for the SPD and 16.4% for the KPD, with a turnout of 93.6%. While there was a clear right-wing majority in the rest of Schleswig-Holstein, a left-wing majority was able to assert itself here (SPD, KPD).
The Ahlmann-Carlshütte filed for its first bankruptcy in 1974. Ten years later, in 1984, a new town center with town hall, community center and market square was built. In 1988, an area of 1 km² was converted from the neighboring municipality of Borgstedt for a new industrial and commercial area. The Ahlmann-Carlshütte filed for its second bankruptcy in 1997 and closed. In 1998, the telecommunications company mobilcom (now freenet ) settled there. This includes the 100-meter high precast concrete transmission tower .
Büdelsdorf received city rights on January 1st, 2000 .
Religions
60% of the Büdelsdorf population are Evangelical Lutheran, around 5% Catholic, 32% do not belong to any religious community under public law. There are two Protestant churches in the city, the Kreuzkirche, built in 1928 on Kirchenstrasse, and the Church of the Resurrection, built in 1972 on Berliner Strasse. The largest mosque in Schleswig-Holstein was opened in 2009 on the border between Rendsburg and Büdelsdorf.

The coat of arms symbolizes agriculture and industry. Until 1827, the population of the place lived almost exclusively from agriculture, which is reflected in the upper half of the coat of arms. In 1827 the Carlshütte was built, which heralded the industrial age in Büdelsdorf and is symbolically represented in the lower half of the coat of arms.

Eisen Kunst Guss Museum Büdelsdorf
Büdelsdorf set up an iron art casting museum in 1963. The holdings emerged from the collection and subsequent foundation by Käte Ahlmann . The museum is supported by the Schleswig-Holstein State Museums Foundation at Gottorf Castle .
Artwork Carlshütte and NordArt
On the site and in the halls of the former Carlshütte is the art and culture center Artwork Carlshütte (formerly KiC ), connected to it is a sculpture park. Every year from June to September, the work of art organizes the international art exhibition NordArt .
Cultural monuments
In the list of cultural monuments in Büdelsdorf are the cultural monuments entered in the monuments list of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is the director's villa of Hollerschen Carlshütte, built in 1924.
Sports
There is a nature adventure pool in Büdelsdorf, which is supported by a support association. The largest sports facility is the Eiderstadion, and there are also gyms at all schools.

In Büdelsdorf, the Neumünster – Flensburg and Husum – Kiel lines are on the same route . The closest operated train station is Rendsburg . In connection with the introduction of increased train traffic between Kiel and Rendsburg, there are considerations to extend this regional train to Fockbek via the former Husum – Erfde – Rendsburg railway line and to reactivate the Büdelsdorf stop . Initially, a stop north of Eckernförde Strasse on the branch line to Fockbek was discussed, later at the original location south of this street, where all other trains could also stop. Both locations are in the area of the city of Rendsburg.

There are three schools in total in Büdelsdorf. The Astrid Lindgren School is a primary school that was formed from the former Emil Nolde School and Friedrich Ebert School. The Heinrich Heine School Community School was formed from the Bertolt Brecht School (secondary school) and the Klaus Groth School (secondary school). Since the 2014/15 school year, it has also offered an upper level. In 2010, the Mittelholstein private school temporarily opened a school location behind the Emil-Nolde-Schule and offered a primary school branch and a secondary branch.

Büdelsdorf markets itself under the motto “The young city”. In the city there is a weekly market on Thursdays in the center in front of the town hall. The only heated natural open-air swimming pool in Schleswig-Holstein is located in the city.
