Bredenbek is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein . Bredenmoor, Bredenbekermoor, Glinde, Kronsburg and Rolfshörn are in the municipality.

geography

The place is about 15 kilometers east of Rendsburg and 18 kilometers west of Kiel on the federal highway 210 and the railway line Kiel-Rendsburg . On January 1, 2015, the new train stop was opened at Rolfshörner Weg in the south of the village. The municipality is dominated by agriculture and connects to the Westensee Nature Park in the south and extends almost to the Kiel Canal in the north. At the "Bredenbek" motorway junction of the A 210, an intermunicipal industrial park with a direct connection to the new Bredenbek train station has been developing since 2000.

history

The place Bredenbek was first mentioned in 1264 in the city register of the city of Kiel as "de Bradenbeke". The word Bredenbek is made up of the Low German words “breden” for broad / flat and “bek” for Bach. The village bears its name because of the brook called "Bek", which, now partially piped, flows through the village.

The community was formed in 1928 after the manor districts were dissolved.

According to the first documentary mention in 1264, the 750th anniversary was celebrated with a village festival at the end of August 2014.

Community representation

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council since the local elections in 2003 , the SPD had six seats, four municipal representatives were non-party (left the CDU) and the electoral community (FWB) had one seat. Hans-Werner Hamann (SPD) has been the mayor of the town since 1994 .

Of the thirteen seats in the municipal council since the 2008 local elections , the SPD had eight, the CDU three and the FWB electoral community two. Andrea Gellert (SPD) became mayor.

Of the fourteen seats in the municipal council since the 2013 local elections (an overhang mandate in the SPD), the SPD had seven seats, the CDU had three and the constituency FWB had four. Bartelt Brouer (SPD) became mayor.

Of the thirteen seats in the municipal council since the local elections in 2018 , the Free Voting Community Bredenbek (FWB) has five seats, the SPD has six and the CDU has two. Thorsten Schwanebeck (FWB) became mayor.

Bredenbek has a primary school in the center of the village with around one hundred pupils and a kindergarten on Rolfshörner Weg.

Sons and daughters of the church

The American actor Eric Braeden was born in Bredenbek in 1941 as Hans-Jörg Gudegast. He chose his stage name based on his home community. Since 1998 he has been an honorary citizen of the community. Braeden has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . His father Wilhelm Gudegast was Mayor of Bredenbek in 1944/45.
