Hörsten is a municipality on both sides of the Kiel Canal in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein . Luhnvie and Schachtholm are in the municipality.

Geography and traffic

Hörsten is about 11 km south of Rendsburg between the Eider and the federal road 77 from Rendsburg to Itzehoe . The village center is north of the Kiel Canal on the Eider. To the south of the canal is the Rendsburg-Schachtholm airfield , which is used by sport aircraft and for sightseeing flights.

politics

In the municipal council, the constituency of the AWH has had all seven seats since the local elections in 2008. Since 2013 the community no longer has a community council, but a community assembly.

economy

The municipality is predominantly agricultural. There are also several shipping companies in the municipality.

history

The community hit the headlines in November 2000 when the cattle disease BSE was first diagnosed in a cow born in Germany.
