Geography and traffic

Winnemark is located about 5 km south of Kappeln on the Schwansener bank of the Schlei . The Schwansenstraße runs to the east from Kappeln to Eckernförde .

Winnemark includes the Schwonsburg peninsula , on which a late medieval castle is said to have been located opposite the town of Arnis .

history

Winnemark itself was first mentioned as Windemark in 1462. The place name probably goes back to the old Danish windær as a nickname with reference to the Wends . However, it is also possible that it comes from the Old Norse vinda (≈ blow, turn, swing) or vindr (≈ crooked).

The oldest known district is Karlsburg (until 1806 Gereby), first mentioned in 1352 as Gereby. The estate was renamed Carlsburg in 1826 in honor of Landgrave Carl von Hessen-Kassel, who revoked serfdom here in 1790. The associated manor house , commonly known as the castle, was built in 1721. It is still privately owned today, including in the past that of the ducal family Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg .

politics

Community representation

Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the CDU has had seven seats since the local elections in 2008 and the SPD two.

The seating ratio changed with the 2013 local elections: since then the CDU has five seats, the SPD two seats and the Winnemark WGW electoral community two seats.
