Schwonsburg

The Schwonsburg ( Danish : Svaneborg ≈ literally Schwanenburg ) is an Outbound castle in the scenic area Schwansen on a peninsula in the Schlei opposite the town of Arnis . Even today there is an elevation on which two individual buildings (residential building with ancillary building) stand (occupied since 1786). The elevation of the Schwonsburg shields a small Noor from the actual Schlei.

The Schwonsburg is said to have been laid out in 1415 by King Erich of Pomerania , who, as a so-called Union King, ruled over the three Nordic empires of Denmark, Norway and Sweden ( Kalmar Union ) until his deposition in 1439 and was in conflict with the Hanseatic League in particular . Together with a defensive system, which arose roughly where the Arnis cemetery is today, the sea route to the allies (see also: Adolf VIII. ) In the city of Schleswig was to be cut off via Schlei-Enge between Arnis and Sundsacker . The Königsburg , a little further south, is said to have been built at the same time as the Schwonsburg .

The island at that time was already referred to as "Swonsburg" on Johannes Mejer's map of the grinding shop (1649).

Today the Schwonsburg belongs to the municipality of Winnemark .
