Villangeaux is a town and formerly an independent political municipality in the Glane district of the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . On March 1, 1969, Villangeaux was incorporated into Ecublens .

geography

Villangeaux is 673  m above sea level. M. , four kilometers south of Moudon (as the crow flies). The village extends on a terrace on the upper western valley slope of the Broye , in the Molasse hill country of the southwest Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 2 km². The area was bordered to the east by the Broye river, which was cut deep into the molasse heights . To the west it reached over the plateau of Villangeaux to the meadow height of Pierravau ( 696  m above sea level ) on the range of hills between Broye and Carrouge .

population

With around 40 inhabitants (1960), Villangeaux was one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. A few individual farms also belonged to Villangeaux.

Villangeaux still lives from agriculture , especially from dairy and cattle breeding, as well as from agriculture .

traffic

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a side road from Moudon to Ecublens . Villangeaux has no connection to the public transport network.

history

The area of ​​Villangeaux was settled early on, which was proven by the discovery of wall remains of a Gallo-Roman building. The place was first mentioned in a document as early as 1161 as villa quae dicitur Willangas .

Since the Middle Ages Villangeaux has belonged to the rue lordship , and in the 13th century came under the sovereignty of Savoy . When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Vogtei Rue. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Villangeaux belonged to the Rue district during the Helvetic and the following period, before being incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848. Villangeaux had shared administration with Ecublens as early as 1883. With effect from January 1, 1969, the small community was incorporated together with Eschiens to Ecublens .
