Villaraboud ( Friborg Patois ) is a town and formerly an independent political municipality in the Glane district of the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . On January 1, 2004, Villaraboud was incorporated into Siviriez .
geography
Villaraboud is 750 m above sea level. M. , three kilometers east of Siviriez and four kilometers south of the district capital Romont (as the crow flies). The village extends on the slope gently sloping to the north on the right side of the Glâne valley , in the Molasse hills of the southwestern Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 3.2 km². The area comprised the slope of Villaraboud, extended to the north-west into the wide valley of the Glâne, to the east to the moorland of L'Ochère and to the south into the Entre deux Bois forest . To the west of the village is the mostly wooded valley of the Fochaux stream .
population
With 309 inhabitants (2002), Villaraboud was one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Villaraboud includes the hamlets of Bramafan ( 700 m above sea level ) and Les Buissons ( 718 m above sea level ) in the Glânetal as well as some farm settlements and individual farms.
economy
Until the second half of the 20th century, Villaraboud was predominantly an agricultural village. Even today, dairy farming , animal husbandry and, to a lesser extent, arable farming play an important role in the income structure of the population. A few other jobs are available in local small businesses (including a carpenter's workshop) and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Romont region.
traffic
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a connecting road from Siviriez to Vuisternens-devant-Romont . Villaraboud has a connection to the public transport network thanks to the Transports publics Fribourgeois bus line , which runs from Romont to Prez-vers-Siviriez .
history
The first written mention of the place took place in 1223 under the name Vilarrabot . The spellings Vilar Rabor (1262), Vilarraboth (1291), Villaraboz (1453), Vilarabor (1458) and Villarabou (1668) appeared later . The place name goes back to the Germanic personal name Ratbold or Radebod , which was connected with the late Latin word villare (village, hamlet).
Villaraboud belonged to the estate of the lords of Ecublens and was bought in 1262 by Peter II of Savoy . Under Savoyard rule, the village experienced several changes of ownership. When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, Villaraboud came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Bailiwick of Romont. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), the village belonged to the Romont district during the Helvetic and the following period and was incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848. After the villagers had voted with a yes majority of 85% in favor of the municipality merger, Villaraboud was incorporated into Siviriez on January 1, 2004, together with Chavannes-les-Forts and Prez-vers-Siviriez .
Attractions
The current parish church of Saint-Laurent was built in 1868 on the site of a previous building. It shows a mixture of classical and neo-Gothic styles.
On a hill west of the Glâne is the Notre-Dame-de-la-Forêt chapel from 1804 with glass pictures by the Freiburg artist Emile Aebischer, which at times was an important pilgrimage destination.
