Villorsonnens is a municipality in the Glane district in the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . It was created on January 1, 2001 through the merger of the four previously independent municipalities Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens , Orsonnens , Villargiroud and Villarsiviriaux .

The area of the 15.5 km² municipal area comprises a section of the Molasse Heights of the Freiburg Central Plateau. The northern border runs along the middle reaches of the Glâne, which here flows through a flat valley valley up to 500 m wide. From here, the municipality extends southward over the Bois Mottau forest and the Le Vusy hill ( 709  m above sea level ) into the Neirigue flood plain . To the south of this river, the area extends to the Orsonnens plateau, which is bounded in the southwest by the Bois de Saugy (up to 870  m above sea level ) and in the northeast by the Bois de Vernex . The southernmost part of the municipality lies in the catchment area of the Glèbe creek with its left side creek Ruisseau du Guelbe . It includes the partly wooded, partly willowed northern slope of the Gibloux, which is divided into various valleys and protrusions (including the La Joux forest ) by the source streams of the Glèbe . The highest point of Villorsonnens is 1204  m above sea level. M. on the summit of the Gibloux, on whose ridge the southern border runs. In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was in settlements, 28% in forests and woodlands, 66% in agriculture and a little less than 1% was unproductive land.

The municipality of Villorsonnens consists of the villages Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens ( 656  m above sea level ) in the valley of the Neirigue, Orsonnens ( 699  m above sea level ) on a plateau southeast of the Neirigue, Villargiroud ( 787  m above sea level ) and Villarsiviriaux ( 833  m above sea level ) at the northern foot of the Gibloux. history

Since the Middle Ages , the municipality of Villorsonnens has been under the influence of the lordship of Pont-en-Ogoz , with Orsonnens, Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens and Villargiroud forming three small lordships. Towards the end of the 15th century, the villages gradually came under the rule of Freiburg and were assigned to the Bailiwick of Pont-Farvagny. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), the area of Villorsonnens belonged to the Romont district during the Helvetic Republic until 1803, then to the Farvagny district and was incorporated into the Glâne district with the new cantonal constitution in 1848.

As part of the municipal mergers promoted by the canton of Friborg since 2000, the villages of Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens , Orsonnens , Villargiroud and Villarsiviriaux were merged with effect from January 1, 2001. The newly created political municipality was given the name Villorsonnens.
