The area of the 6.2 km² municipal area comprises a section of the Molasse Heights in the area of the Glâne valley. The southern part of the municipality is occupied by the Glâne valley, which forms a flat valley floor up to 400 m wide. The Neirigue , Glèbe and Longive streams flow here from the south . Below the mouth of the latter, the Glâne sinks into the molasse layers and runs in a valley flanked by rocky slopes east of the Bois des Grands Champs . From the Glânetal valley, the municipality extends north over the slope of Autigny to the heights of Bois de Perten ( 744 m above sea level ), Sur la Croix Neuve ( 745 m above sea level ) and La Fin (at 760 m above sea level) . the highest point of Autigny). economy
Until the second half of the 20th century, Autigny was predominantly an agricultural village. In the 19th century several mills, an oil mill, a sawmill and a brickworks were operated along the Glânelauf. Agriculture , dairy farming and cattle breeding still play an important role in the income structure of the population today . Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector, including in a construction company and in a joinery. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Freiburg region.

Autigny is connected to the public transport network through a postbus course that runs from Cottens to Villarsel-le-Gibloux .
history
The municipality of Autigny was settled very early, which has been proven by the remains of a fortification from the Bronze Age and wall foundations from the Roman Age .
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1068 under the name Altignei . Later the names Altiniei and Altinie appeared in the 12th century, Altiniaco (1183), Altignie (1217), Autinie (1228), Autignie (1273), Autignye (1285) and Ottignye (1717). In addition to Ottenach , Aultennachen (1555) and Ottonachen (1577) have come down to us as German versions . The place name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Altinius .
The noble family von Autigny, who ruled the village, has been mentioned since the 12th century. The village came under the rule of Freiburg through purchase in 1442 and was assigned to the old landscape (Neustadtpanner). Autigny was hit by a village fire in 1545 and by the plague in 1596. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Autigny initially belonged to the Romont district during the Helvetic period and from 1803 to the Friborg district before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.
