history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1227 under the name Vilaralort ; from 1231 the name Vilaraloz has been handed down. The place name is made up of the Latin word villa (country house, village) and the personal name Alold or Arlold .

In the Middle Ages , Villarlod belonged to the Pont dominion. Hauterive Abbey also owned land and had rights in the community. With Pont, the village came under the rule of Freiburg in 1483 and was assigned to the Vogtei Pont-Farvagny. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Villarlod belonged to the Romont district during the Helvetic and from 1803 to the Farvagny district, before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.

As part of the community mergers promoted by the Canton of Friborg since 2000, the residents of Villarlod, Estavayer-le-Gibloux , Rueyres-Saint-Laurent and Villarsel-le-Gibloux decided to merge their communities in 2002. With effect from January 1, 2003, the merger of the villages to form the new municipality with the name Le Glèbe came into force.
