Prez-vers-Noréaz ( Freiburger Patois ) was a municipality in the District de la Sarine (German: Saanebezirk) in the canton of Friborg in Switzerland until December 31, 2019 . On January 1, 2020, it merged with Corserey and Noréaz to form the new municipality of Prez .

Prez-vers-Noréaz is 646  m above sea level. M. , 11 km west-southwest of the canton capital Friborg (beeline). The elongated street village extends slightly higher on the southern edge of the Lac de Seedorf plain , at the foot of La Brillaz , in the Molasse hill country of the Freiburg Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the 5.7 km² former municipal area comprises a section of the Molasse Heights between the Broye plain in the north-west and the Glâne valley in the south-east. In the north, the municipal area is part of the up to 1.5 km wide plain of Lac de Seedorf and extends to the La Goillette pond , of which the southern part belongs to Prez-vers-Noréaz. Towards the west, the plain slopes down with a relatively steep slope into the densely wooded erosion valley of the Arbogne , which forms the western and northwestern municipal boundaries. To the south, the municipality extends up to the slope of the height La Brillaz with the forest Buchillon and reaches here at 740  m above sea level. M. the highest point of Prez-vers-Noréaz. In 1997, 8% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 19% for forests and woodlands and 73% for agriculture.

With 1,100 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) Prez-vers-Noréaz was one of the smaller communities in the canton of Friborg. 91.1% of the residents speak French, 6.1% German and 0.7% speak Italian (as of 2000). The population of Prez-vers-Noréaz was 549 in 1900. After a peak in 1920 with 615 inhabitants, the population decreased by over 20% to 485 people by 1960. Since then, the population has grown significantly.

Prez-vers-Noréaz was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . The water power of the Arbogne was previously used to operate a mill. Even today, the have farming , the fruit production , the dairy industry and animal husbandry an important role in the employment structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector, including in precision mechanics and computer science companies as well as in a carpentry workshop. Prez-vers-Noréaz is the location of an equestrian center. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Freiburg and Payerne regions.

history

The municipality of Prez-vers-Noréaz was settled early on. The remains of a Roman aqueduct and Roman baths have been found here. The place was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century under the name Pratellis . The names Pree , Prees and Prez appeared later . The place name goes back to the Latin diminutive form pratellum (small meadow).

Since the 12th century Prez-vers-Noréaz was a fief under the rule of Montagny . The village came under the rule of Freiburg through purchase in 1478 and was assigned to the Bailiwick of Montagny. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Prez-vers-Noréaz belonged to the Payerne district during the Helvetic Republic, to the Montagny district from 1803 and to the Friborg district from 1815, before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.

Attractions

The parish church was given its present form when it was rebuilt in 1835 in the classicism style . Next to it is a barn, built in 1876, with a classicist stone facade. In the western part of the village there is a manor house that was built in 1746 for the Féguely family. The rectangular two-storey building with a mansard roof has a large open staircase. It was used as a school building from 1892 and is now home to the Sparkasse.
