Cutterwil is a town and formerly an independent political municipality in the District de la Sarine (German: Saanebezirk) in the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . The spelling Cutterwyl was often used until the 20th century . The former French name Cudrevy is hardly used today. On January 1, 1977, Cutterwil was incorporated into Belfaux .
geography
Cutterwil lies at 633 m above sea level. M. , 3 km north-west of Belfaux and 7 km north-west of the canton capital Friborg (beeline). The village extends on a slope gently sloping to the northwest below the Bois du Fossé forest , in the Molasse hill country of the Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality stretched from the undulating plateau near Misery to the southeast over the slope of Cutterwil to the Bois du Fossé ( 690 m above sea level ).
population
With 81 inhabitants (1970), Cutterwil was one of the smallest communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. In 1850 the community had 105 inhabitants, in 1900 93 inhabitants. Despite the German name, the population is predominantly French-speaking. Cutterwil consists of two hamlet settlements and some individual farms.

Cutterwil still lives from agriculture , especially from agriculture , fruit growing and cattle breeding .
traffic
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but can be easily reached from the main road that leads from Freiburg via Grolley to Payerne . The Postbus course, which runs from Freiburg to Misery , connects Cutterwil to the public transport network.
history
The first written mention of the place took place in 1361 under the name Curtivri . The names Cultiurj (1428), Curtivril (1436), Cutryuy (1555), Curwier (1638) and Courtrivey later appeared in the 18th century. The origin of the place name is unclear.
Since the Middle Ages, various families have ruled the village of Cutterwil . The village came under the rule of Freiburg through purchase in 1442 and was assigned to the old landscape (Spitalpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Cutterwil belonged to the Friborg district during the Helvetic and the following period before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution. With effect from January 1, 1977, Cutterwil was incorporated into Belfaux .
Attractions
The Belle Ferme farmhouse was built in 1722 and is now a listed building. Cutterwil does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish of Belfaux.
