Lossy ( Freiburger Patois Lèthi ? / I ) is a town and formerly an independent political municipality in the District de la Sarine (German: Saanebezirk) in the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . On January 1, 1982 Lossy was united with Formangueires in the new municipality of Lossy-Formangueires . Today it is the seat of the municipality of La Sonnaz . Audio file / audio sample

geography

Lossy lies at 609  m above sea level. M. , five kilometers northwest of the canton capital Friborg (beeline). The street village stretches from a panoramic location on the northern slopes of the Sonnaz and west of the side valley of Les Riaux , in the Molasse hill country of the Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 2 km². The area reached from the broad basin of the Sonnaz northwards over the slope of Lossy to the forest areas Forêt Cantonale (up to 690  m above sea level ) and Bois de la Corbaz ( 660  m above sea level ). Most of the Riaux valley also belonged to Lossy.

population

With around 170 inhabitants (1980), Lossy was one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Several individual farms belonged to Lossy.

economy

Until the second half of the 20th century, Lossy was mainly an agricultural village. Even today, the have farming , the fruit production , the dairy industry and animal husbandry an important role in the employment structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector, including in a carpenter's workshop and a mechanical workshop. In the last few decades the village has developed into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Freiburg region.

traffic

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares, the main access is from Belfaux . The closest connection to the A12 motorway (Bern-Vevey) is around 5 km from the town center. Lossy has no direct connection to the public transport network. The nearest train station on the Freiburg - Murten railway line is in Belfaux (2 km from the town center).

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1228 under the name Lozchie . Later the names Lozie (1229), Lochie (1267), Lotzie (1294), Locie (1363) and Locye (1445) appeared. The etymology of the place name is unclear.

Since the Middle Ages Lossy has been under the Lords of Englisberg. From 1442 at the latest, the village came under the rule of Freiburg and was assigned to the Old Landscape (Spitalpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Lossy belonged to the Friborg district during the Helvetic and the following period, before it was incorporated into the Saane district with the new cantonal constitution in 1848.

Lossy and Formangueires have been administered jointly since 1834. On January 1, 1982, therefore, the merger to the new municipality Lossy-Formangueires took place . This merged on January 1, 2004 with La Corbaz and Cormagens to form the municipality of La Sonnaz . Ecclesiastically, Lossy belongs to the parish of Belfaux. It has a chapel.
