history
The area of La Corbaz was settled very early, which could be proven by finding a necropolis from the Hallstatt period. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1294 under the name La Corbassieri .
Since the Middle Ages, La Corbaz has been under the control of the Lords of Englisberg, but the Praroman family and the Freiburg Citizens Hospital also owned land in the area. From 1442 at the latest, the village came under the rule of Freiburg and was assigned to the Old Landscape (Spitalpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), La Corbaz belonged to the Friborg district during the Helvetic and the following period, before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution. Since 1866 the parishes of La Corbaz and Cormagens have been administered by the same council. However, Cormagens resisted a possible merger in 1981.
As part of the municipal mergers promoted by the canton of Friborg since 2000, the voters of La Corbaz decided on May 20, 2003 with a yes majority of 75% to merge with the municipalities of Cormagens and Lossy-Formangueires . With effect from January 1, 2004, the merger to form the new municipality of La Sonnaz came into force.
