history
The first written mention of the place took place in the 12th century under the name Villar Aldiert . The name Poja appeared later . The place name goes back to the patois expression posat (cistern). Posat developed around a monastery in the 12th century, which was founded by the Premonstratensians around 1140. The village came under the rule of Freiburg through purchase in 1483 and was assigned to the Vogtei Pont-Farvagny. The former monastery was then converted into the summer residence of the Jesuits from Freiburg.
After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Posat belonged to the Romont district during the Helvetic period and from 1803 to the Farvagny district before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.
In 1995 the residents of Posat, Farvagny-le-Grand, Farvagny-le-Petit and Grenilles decided to merge their parishes. This resulted in the first large municipal merger in the canton of Friborg, which became legally binding on January 1, 1996; the new parish was named Farvagny .
