geography

Praroman lies at 779  m above sea level. M. , seven kilometers south of the canton capital Friborg (beeline). The village extends from a promising location on a hilltop and on a slope that slopes slightly to the south over the lowland of the Ruisseau du Pontet , in the foothills of the Alps at the northern foot of the Alps. The former municipality area was around 3.2 km². The area comprised the up to 1 km wide valley low of the Ruisseau du Pontet , which joins east of the village with further source streams to form the Nesslerabach . This drains the area to the Ärgera (French: Gérine). North of the Ruisseau du Pontet, the former municipal ban extended over the height of Praroman ( 791  m above sea level ) to the edge of the plateau south of the Ärgera valley.

population

With 1165 inhabitants (2002), Praroman was one of the medium-sized communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Especially since 1960 (486 inhabitants) there has been a strong population growth. The settlements Moulin à Bentz ( 740  m above sea level ), the northern and eastern part of Le Mouret ( 754  m above sea level ) and the western part of Le Pafuet ( 741  m above sea level ) also belonged to Praroman , all in the valley of the Ruisseau du Pontet. There are numerous individual farms in the vicinity of Praroman.

economy

Until the middle of the 20th century, Praroman was a village dominated by agriculture . Today, dairy farming , cattle breeding and arable farming only play a minor role in the income structure of the population. Numerous other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. A commercial zone has been created near Le Mouret since the 1950s. Companies in the construction and transport industry, wood processing, electrical engineering and IT have settled here. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Freiburg region.

traffic

The village has good transport links. The Le Mouret settlement is on the main road from Freiburg via La Roche to Bulle . Praroman and Le Mouret are connected to the public transport network by the bus lines of Transports publics Fribourgeois , which run from Freiburg via La Roche to Bulle or to Jaun and from Freiburg to Bonnefontaine .

history

The area of Praroman was already inhabited during Roman times, which can be proven by traces of settlement from that time. The first written mention of the place took place in 1148 under the current name Praroman . The German version of Perroman has been handed down from 1301; In 1476 the spelling Praromant appeared . The place name is derived from the Latin name pratum romanum (Roman meadow).

In the Middle Ages , Praroman belonged to the Marly rule . In the course of the 15th century the village came under the rule of Freiburg and was assigned to the Old Landscape (Burgpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Praroman belonged to the La Roche district during the Helvetic Republic and to the Friborg district from 1803 before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.

In 1996 the idea of a large-scale community merger was born. On June 13, 2002, the voters of Praroman voted with a yes share of 82% for the merger. With effect from January 1, 2003, the previously independent communities of Praroman, Bonnefontaine , Essert (FR) , Montévraz , Oberried (FR) and Zénauva were merged. The new parish was named Le Mouret .

Attractions

The parish church of Praroman was built between 1637 and 1639 and redesigned at the end of the 19th century. The castle dates from 1760. In the old town center there are some stately farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries.
