history

The Lentigny area was populated very early. There was a settlement here during Roman times . During excavations, a mosaic floor and numerous fragments of ceramics and iron goods were found.

The first written mention of the place took place in 1142 under the name Lintiniei . Later the names Lentiniei (1150), Lintinie (1254), Lintignye (1285), Lintignie (1290), Lintigny (1320), Lentignie (1445) and Lentigniez (1555) appeared. The German version of Lentenach has been handed down since 1578. The place name is derived from the Gallo-Roman surname Lentinius .

In the Middle Ages, Lentigny belonged to the Montagny domain . The village came under the rule of Freiburg through purchase in 1442 and was assigned to the old landscape (Neustadtpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Lentigny belonged to the Friborg district during the Helvetic and the following period, before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.

As part of the community mergers funded by the canton of Friborg since 2000, the residents of Lentigny, Lovens and Onnens decided to merge their communities. With effect from January 1, 2001, the new municipality of La Brillaz was therefore formed.
