Corserey ( Freiburger Patois Korchèrê ? / I ) was a municipality in the District de la Sarine (German: Saanebezirk) of the canton of Friborg in Switzerland until December 31, 2019 . geography

Corserey lies at 658  m above sea level. M. , 13 km west-southwest of the canton capital Friborg (beeline). The village extends on the high plateau west of the Ruisseau des Vaux brook and west of the height La Brillaz , in the Molasse hill country of the Freiburg Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the 3.5 km² former municipal area comprises a section of the gently undulating Molasse plateau between the Broye plain in the north and the Glânetal in the south. Over the course of millions of years the rivers of the Arbogne (northern border) and the village stream Ruisseau des Vaux have deepened into these molasse layers . To the south, the municipality extends to the height of La Crêta (at 700  m above sea level, the highest point of Corserey) and into the forest area of Les Faverges . In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 19% for forests and trees and 76% for agriculture.

Corserey includes the Grand Clos farm estate ( 655  m above sea level ) on the high plateau north of the village as well as several individual farms. The neighboring parishes of Corserey were Prez-vers-Noréaz , La Brillaz , Torny and Montagny .

With 419 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) Corserey was one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg. 97.0% of the residents are French-speaking, 1.5% German-speaking and 1.2% speak Italian (as of 2000). The population of Corserey was 172 in 1850 and 232 in 1900. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated between 180 and 250 people. Only since 1980 (187 inhabitants) has there been significant population growth.

Corserey was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, the have farming , the fruit production , the dairy industry and animal husbandry an important role in the employment structure of the population. Other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector, including in companies in the electrical industry, construction and IT. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Freiburg and Payerne regions.

Corserey is quite well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the connecting road from Freiburg via Prez-vers-Noréaz to Romont . Corserey is connected to the public transport network through the Postbus course that runs from Avry to Romont.

The first written mention of the place took place in 1157 under the name Corserei . Later, the names Corserer (1302) and Corseray appeared . The place name goes back to Curtiacum , the court of a person named Curtius .

In the 12th century, Hauterive Abbey was donated to rich estates in the area of ​​Corserey. The village formed its own small lordship, which underwent numerous changes of ownership over time and was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Savoy from the 13th century. Corserey was cremated by the former in 1448 during the war between the Friborg and the Savoy.

From 1474 Corserey formed a Friborg bailiwick, which was merged with the Bailiwick of Montagny in 1585 . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Corserey belonged to the Payerne district during the Helvetic period , to the Montagny district from 1803 and to the Friborg district from 1815 before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.

Attractions

The Saint-Pierre church was built in the neo-Romanesque style from 1895 and was elevated to a parish church in 1900. Some stately farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.
