economy

Bonnefontaine was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . The manufacture of straw hats was also widespread in the 19th century. Even today, dairy farming and cattle breeding and, to a lesser extent, arable farming play an important role in the income structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Freiburg region.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares, the main access is from Praroman . The village is connected to the public transport network by a bus from the Transports publics Fribourgeois , which runs from Freiburg to Bonnefontaine.

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1149 under the name Bona Fontana in the meaning of good source , good well . Later the names Bonofonte (1150), Bonus fons (in the 12th century), Bonnefontaine (1237), Bunfontana (1270), Monfetan (1445), Munfotan (1449), Montfetan (1476), Boffetan (1490) and Muffetan ( 1668).

Since the Middle Ages , the Hauterive monastery had property and clearing rights in the Bonnefontaine area. From 1237 the village was a fiefdom under the Lords of Englisberg. In 1448 it was devastated by the Bernese who waged armed conflicts with Freiburg. In the course of the 15th century Bonnefontaine came under the rule of Freiburg and was assigned to the old landscape (Burgpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), the village belonged to the La Roche district during the Helvetic period and to the Friborg district from 1803 before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.

On January 1, 1989, the previously independent village of Montécu was incorporated into Bonnefontaine. In 1996 the idea of a large-scale community merger was born. On June 13, 2002, the voters of Bonnefontaine voted with a yes share of 62% for the merger. With effect from January 1, 2003, the previously independent municipalities Bonnefontaine, Essert (FR) , Montévraz , Oberried (FR) , Praroman and Zénauva were merged. The new parish was named Le Mouret .
