history

The four tumuli from the Hallstatt period , which were found at Autafond, bear witness to an early settlement of the community area. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1236 under the name Auta-fonz . The place name is derived from the Latin words alta fons (high source).

In Autafond, the Bishop of Lausanne and the Payerne Priory had basic and tithe rights in the Middle Ages . The village came under the rule of Freiburg through purchase in 1442 and was assigned to the old landscape (Spitalpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Autafond belonged to the Friborg district during the Helvetic and the following period, before it was incorporated into the Saane district with the new cantonal constitution in 1848.

Attractions

The Chenaleyres country estate was built in 1716 by the architect André-Joseph Rossier for himself and his wife Marie-Hélène Castella de Delley and has a castle chapel. It belonged temporarily to the commander of the Swiss Guard Jules Repond . Two other mansions from the 18th century are in the hamlet of Combes; The first owner of the larger one, known as Manoir de Gottrau de Pensier dit de Combes, is proven to be the de Montenach family , the construction of the smaller one can be traced back to the extinct patrician branch of the Progin family. Autafond does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Belfaux.
