Montenach ( Lorraine Montléch ) is a French commune with 458 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region ( Lorraine until 2015 ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Thionville .

geography

The municipality of Montenach is located about 17 km northeast of Thionville , near the border triangle Luxembourg - France - Germany . Montenach is located in a side valley of the Moselle through which the Ruisseau de Montenach flows. The creek arises from the confluence of Leuk, bite Bach and Hangoldbach . The village of Kaltweiller ( Kaltweiler ) to the south also belongs to Montenach . A 107 hectare nature reserve was created on the Bissenbach in 1994.

history

The place has belonged to France since 1661, was part of the Sierck community from 1811 to 1820 and German from 1871 to 1918.
