Uckange (German Ückingen ) is a French commune with 6818 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Thionville .
geography
Uckange is located on the Moselle , about ten kilometers south of Thionville (Diedenhofen) at an altitude between 150 and 190 m above sea level, the mean height is 157 m. The municipality covers 5.56 km².
history
The place was first mentioned in 1106 as Utingas and belonged to the Holy Roman Empire , after 1659 to France, in the meantime to the realm of Alsace-Lorraine .
