Volstroff ( German Wolsdorf ) is a municipality with 1965 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

geography

The community is about nine kilometers southeast of Thionville in the valley of the Bibiche River .

It comprises the four villages to the southwest:

  • Reinange ( Reningen ),
  • Saint-Vitus ( Sankt Veit ),
  • Schell ( Schell ) and
  • Vinsberg ( Weinsberg ), where there is a castle.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1305 as Wollestrof .

Through the Peace of the Pyrenees , Thionville and the surrounding area were ceded by Luxembourg to France on November 7, 1659 .

From February 1, 1971 to December 31, 1981 he was incorporated into the neighboring village of Metzervisse .
