The canton of Metzervisse is a French constituency in the Arrondissement of Thionville , in the Moselle department and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

history

The canton was founded on February 15, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "District of Thionville". In 1801 he came to the new Arrondissement of Thionville. From 1871 to 1919 and from 1940 to 1944 there was no further subdivision of the then " District Diedenhofen ". After the division of this district, the area belonged to the Diedenhofen-Ost district from 1901 to 1919 . Until 2015, 23 municipalities belonged to the canton of Metzervisse. When the cantons were reorganized in France, Metzervisse was one of the few cantons whose territory remained unchanged.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Isabelle Rauch / Pierre Zenner (both UDI) won against Jean-Marc Bertram / Jeanine Contou (both FN ) with 61.11% of the votes (turnout: 43.86%).
